This symposium is a sequel to the previous MMU/NTT Joint Seminars (with the first seminar held at Universiti Putra Malaysia in September 1997 and the second at Equatorial Hotel Melaka in January 1999). In 2000, the MMU/NTT Joint Seminar was renamed as MMU International Symposium on Information and Communications Technologies (M²USIC).

Information and communications technologies (ICT) are changing the world we live in for the better. ICT have changed teaching and learning practices through its potential as a source of knowledge, a medium to transfer knowledge, and a tool to create knowledge. Applications of ICT, such as email, Internet, the web and video-conferences, have created many new communication possibilities. The role of ICT research in several key areas does not stop here. For example, in information security biometric technologies have made rapid progress in recent years, and the idea of using them for identifying individuals and enhancing security in society has gained momentum. Certainly, recent advancements in ICT will offer new opportunities to achieve and sustain economic and social development. This year’s conference, with the theme “ICT for a Better Tomorrow,” will take an in-depth look at the many issues raised by today’s technology and the obstacles and opportunities created by the resulting array of new products, services, technologies, and applications, opening doors for a bright and better tomorrow.

Frontiers of ICT Research

This symposium is held to promote R&D activities and to provide a global forum of discussion for academicians, leading technologists and engineers in multimedia technologies in the Asia Pacific region.
